The different shapes of wooden components make a standard classification and standardized fire tests impossible. Wooden components are therefore not classified with regard to their fire behavior. In connection with wood and fire protection coatings, therefore, one cannot speak of fire resistance classes.
With a perfectly planned fire protection coating, however, wooden structures can be upgraded to ‘flame-retardant building materials of class B1’. A fireproof coating cannot prevent wood from catching fire, but it can delay burning in.
The burn-in speed must be considered in the planning, depending on the type and thickness of the wood
can be calculated in detail. If the type of wood is known, this parameter can be determined by professionals. We call this the “fire class of wood”, in which the weight of the solid wood already plays an important role.
